Has anybody had their 4 wheeler on the ice at Pineview yet? Does anybody that has been up there recently think it looked possible and safe? I would like to head up this week sometime possibly Wednesday and take my wheeler, but will not even bother taking it if the ice is not ready or there is just to much snow.
Thanks for any info or wisdom that can be provided this will be my first time using an ATV on the ice so I'm being extra cautious.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000]However, there are other considerations you must consider with regard to Pineview. Pineview, unlike State Parks, does not have any reasonable access to the ice on a quad from a parking lot. There really is only one and that would be Cemetery Point.[/#800000][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000]Problem - there isn't room enough to park a vehicle with trailer attached in that lot since only about 40% has been cleared and it is very tight just getting a vehicle alone into a parking spot. From past experience with a quad at Pineview, I can tell you that you do not want to attempt driving a quad down the beach on the south side to get to the ice - major STUCK problem there. There is no way to get off the north side with a quad and its not safe in my opinion to even try that with a snowmobile.[/#800000][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000]The only other access would be from the Port Ramp and that is NOT plowed - ever. So you will be trying to maneuver your truck/trailer in a rutted, unplowed lot and I would not recommend it.[/#800000][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000]I don't know of anyplace that you can park a truck/trailer with easy, public access to Pineview. If somebody else does, I'd like to hear from them as well.[/#800000][/font]

I drive an older Toyota Tundra and pulled my ATV and Trailer back into the port ramp lot yesterday. My buddy in a big heavy diesel did get stuck as he ventured a little to far back into the lot trying to turn around. I stopped a little short, unloaded the wheeler, removed the trailer and flipped it around by hand. Then drove the truck around and hooked it back up. Wasnt all that difficult. That said I didnt take the machine on the ice as the edges by the ramp were not yet solid enough. I just used the machine to get my big ole heavy tent back up the ramp. I would think the edges have a chance of getting hard enough to drive on by Monday or Tueaday given the temps were supposed to have.

I was there last night with my snowmobile. Getting a snowmobile down to the ice using the south side of Cemetery Point is not a problem at all. Getting out on the ice is pretty easy also. Even with the wet, open edge and slush, the snowmobile will "float" across and several did. It is about 4 to 5 feet across. I decided not to take mine off the trailer because I wanted to fish the North side, which meant driving around the point, which I have done in the past, but it was dark when I arrived and decided I wasn't sure if anyone had done it yet and did not want to be the first. Turned out there were about 4 other sleds on the ice that went that route. I walked the South side prior to making the decision to not try, looking for a good spot to enter the ice. The snow could support a wheeler. I said could. Snow mobile.... absolutely. There is room to park a couple of trailers, but you gotta get their early and get one of the spots, otherwise you will not find anything. It was 10 degrees when I left last night around 10:30 p.m. With those type of temps, everything will be frozen solid probably by Monday. There was about 4 inches of frozen slush, then 3 to 4 inches of water and then 3 to 4 inches of ice again. If you break thru the slush barrier, good luck getting off the ice. You will be digging for a long time. As someone stuck in the snow at strawberry once said, "You can paint it any color you want, but it is still not a snow mobile".
