Had the plan, same as many others. Run up river to Nooga and fish. Made our first stop, had a plump 14.75" largie on the third cast. Hit a Rogue jerkbait. The current was strong enough , hard to effectively fish, plus no more strikes, we moved. Fished riprap, close to downtown, started to catch small keeper spots on a homemade football jig. Went to our next stop, and Mike has a fish pick up his jig. Sets the hook, and brings it to the boat. Flashed, thought it was around 4#. Netted, it was big fish of the classic, 6.97#. Added another spot, five in the box. Moved again, started catching decent largemouth, and culled all of our spots. I caught a couple of short spots, no help. Ran most of the way back to Sullivan's, fished some grass, culled another fish. Ended last hour working on a frog bite. Three blow ups, nothing landed. Best day Mike and I had fishing the CFF, 16#+ today, 3.66# yesterday. 19#+ for second. Big largemouth today, and big spot earlier this year. We caught fish on a jerkbait, Whopper Popper, football jig, crankbait, Senko, and a worm. Mike caught all of our weigh fish.
Big congratulations to Steve and Billy on their win, 23#+, plus anglers of the year. A clean sweep.
Thank you to all the committee members for their hard work this year. Patrick, a special shout out, for keeping up the CFF posts on the forum.
See everyone on the water in 2018.
