QUESTION? WHAT IS A VEXILAR

Hi since your talking about flashers I was wondering if anyone is familiar with older flashers like the old yellow or green lowrance LO-K-TORs? Can you see your jig with them like the Vexilars? Can it detect perch a few inches off the bottom?

I've seen the vexilars and they are really nice but out of my current price range. I'm thinking that some kind of sonar is better than no sonar and I think I like the flasher type more than an LCD type. Any info would be appreciated.
