If any state is serious enough they would man inspection stations 24/7. I have passed thru Evanston going to the Gorge around 5am most times and no inspectors were anywhere to be found. I always pull in since port of entries usually have camera setups watching incoming traffic. If the AIS inspectors are in the sleeping mode or breakfast, i'm not waiting around for them to open for business. No law says I have to. This is a foulacy on there part. So that being said each state has issues when to do AIS inspections. I have been thru inspections enough to know what they are looking for and don't have a problem complying with. Im thankful we aren't pickled with Calif ways. Residents who own boats are paying a AIS fees at DMV along with registration but when they go to a lake they have the usual entrance fee, launch fee, and another AIS inspection fee which is set according to boat length. Out of state boaters need to bring bank account. With many of our countrymen crossing state lines with boats is an interstate issue which could become a federal issue.
