I have a solution - how about building a pier that extends into the reservoir that is built for fishermen (on foot) & located in prime fishing habitat. You go to Texas & they are all over the place. People are fishing 24/7 & there is a tackle shop nearby with helpful information, tackle and bait. However, they charge you $5 a day to fish. But you get a wooden walkway & benches to sit on.
I like this idea. As a primarily shorebound fisherman, I would much rather pay $5 to access a fishing pier/dock than 10 bucks to enter a state, federal or private facility just to park. There is a distinct lack of access to many of the waters in our state if you don't have a boat.
I doubly support the idea of a fishing dock fee if that would deter those who feel compelled to trash every thing and every place they encounter. Sadly, a fee would likely just grant such special individuals a sense of entitlement to treat it however they please.
