My most memorable bycatch was in 1971. Was just learning to fish the plastic worm. A 3/0 hook tipped with a Creme worm. A split shot sinker attached on the line right at the hook eye. Several fish were invited to accompany me to a fish fry later in the day. My best catch was the hardest to land. Fought like a trophy Largemouth all the way to the net. Was working a steep rocky ledge in deep water when the hookup happened. Line stripping off my ABU 5000 at an alarming speed. I was thinking large kitty because it keep seeking for the bottom. Worked the critter for a good 20 minutes. When it finally surfaced I was surprised to have a 10” cast iron skillet hooked in the handle. My mom still uses it for her daily cornbread.
