[#0000FF]It might seem surprising that we ever catch any fish at all...with all of the other critters that seem to wanna intercept our offerings.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]I have caught a few grebes too. Nasty nasty. They go for your eyes if you get close to them.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]Got to taking a trip down memory lane and thought of a couple more "bycatches" that still bring up a chortle or two.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]1. A garter snake. As a kid fishing a small creek in Idaho I had left my rod sitting for a while in one of my favorite spots...baited with a piece of worm. When I reeled in to check it after while it felt funny. Not funny "ha ha"...but funny. Turned out I had caught a small bullhead (sculpin) on my hook and a garter snake had gulped down the sculpin.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]2. While fishing on another stream in Idaho, in later years, I felt a tug and set the hook. But all I brought in was a set of gills and guts from a trout someone had cleaned beside the stream and had tossed back in the water. My fishing buddy hee-hawed me and suggested maybe I shouldn't set the hook so hard.
