How Long is Line's good for?

I fish long range Tuna out of San Diego. Everybody uses heavy spectra backing. Most people unspool their line and dry it after a trip. It can cost as much as $200 or more just to spool one of the 10 reels you are allowed to take into Mexican waters. If you take care of it,,,it can last for years.
