Continue fishing after limit
#23
When I was out fishing with a bunch of guys a few days ago the question came up as to whether you could continue fishing after you had kept your full limit. I thought I had read that you could. Couldn't find it in the book but I looked it up today.

It is found on page 20 of the 2019 Fishing Guidebook. One may continue fishing so long as any fish of the species caught are immediately released. Some anglers may feel it unethical to do so and stop fishing one shy of a limit in case they injure a fish and don't want to return it to the water as it would only die there. I don't know when this change was made.
[#800000]Yep. [/#800000]
You may continue to fish while in possession of a full daily limit, but you must immediately release any additional fish you catch.
[#800000]Now, let's get technical for a minute. [Smile][/#800000]

[#800000]You will notice that nowhere in that quoted sentence does it mention anything at all about a specific species. So taking the words at face value. Once you have a daily limit (doesn't specifiy species - just limit), then you 'must immediately release any additional fish you catch.' And again, no species mentioned. So technically, once you have a 'daily limit' (of what isn't sp[/#800000][#800000]ecified), you must release 'any additional fish' [/#800000][#800000][#800000](again, of what isn't sp[/#800000][#800000]ecified)[/#800000].[/#800000]
[#800000]
[/#800000]
[#800000]You can see where this is headed and there might be a CO out there that would enforce this. If I have a limit of trout and 5 perch on the ice at Rockport, can I legally continue to keep perch after the trout limit is reached? Not the way that quoted statement is written.[/#800000]
[#800000]

[#800000]Now before you go all ballistic on me, I am 100% sure that it is NOT the intent of the that statement in the Guidebook. But it so poorly written, that a case can be made that you can't keep ANY fish after a limit of fish is acquired.[/#800000]

[#800000]Sorry guys - its a slow day today and I just felt the need to stir the pot - just a little. [Wink]

[#800000]Y'all have a good day today.
