PROVER RIVER EYE'S?
#17
Spanish Fork river inlet and Provo inlet are where I used to fish. I tried the bubble up once while I worked at Geneva and lets' just say that I'm glad they shut it down. One jerk was actually showing his pistol to anyone that got within about 30 feet of him to have his own space.

The river mouths are a consistant favorite for pre-spawn and spawn anglers. The eye's are fat and will still take a properly presented annoyance. Of the eye's I've caught down there at this time of year, I think they were hitting to defend the nest and maybe once in a while I found one wanting one last bite on the way up the river.

I grew up in Spanish Fork, so I fished the rivers and the lake quite a bit growing up. Black, White, Chartreuse in that order is what produced the best for me. I tipped with a half a crawler. I tried minnows a few times and just found that if I was there in the evening, I caught Channels instead of eye's (which didn't hurt my feelings any, just thought you'd like to know). Picked up a nice Cutthroat while fishing for eye's at the mouth of the Provo a number of years ago when I had been told that they were making a comeback and I had told everyone that they were full of it and that I hadn't seen one there in years.

You don't have to fish as far out as you might think. I did better casting along the shore at 5-10 feet out than I did casting straight away from the bank. The first few I caught there were from the Spanish Fork inlet and were caught while dragging the offering down the sloping river bank towards the deepest channel. Provo seemed to produce a little better on the edge of the shelves. Cast around to look for drops, but be patient, sometimes they are just "passing through" and pick you up on the go.

If you can, go with utwalleye and/or crossineye. These guys know what they are doing a lot more so than I. They consistantly catch more and bigger fish than I do, so listen to them. Hope it helps.

Let me know when you are making trips and if I can make it down from Roosevelt, I'd love to get out there again. It's been a few years.
