It seems like it's easy to remember the bad trips over the good ones, but one of the times I remember best from fishing Strawberry some doofus was running his hovercraft over the ice through the tent city and it was so unbelievably loud I had to yell out something like "What the h*** is that moron doing?!?!" The guy next to us said yep, he was out here doing it yesterday too. Hoverdoofus wasn't even fishing, he was just driving along with a big dumb 
on his face while the ice cracked all around him and people stared at him. I'll try to avoid fishing near the marina in the future, and it sounds like the shuttle would be a great option....to answer the question about how you would know if one spot is better than another, Strawberry and Solider Creek are probably the most well mapped bodies of water in the state. The Fish-n-Map I have for them has something like 50 GPS points on the map.
