Cat-Whackin' at Lincoln Beach 9-17-20

After Lee got demoralized at Willard  I figured he was due for some tugs.  So we met up at Lincoln Beach this morning.  Air temp 51.  Water temp 65 at launch and up to 67 by noon departure.

Just as we were getting ready to launch some old guy was backing his boat down the ramp...going back and forth like some kind of rookie.  Turned out to be Mr. and Mrs. J.  Good to see you guys again.  Hope you did well at the Knolls.

Lee got away before me and as I cleared the boat channel he announced he had already got a 24 incher in his net.  Yee Hawww.  Skunk begone.  He went on to have a pretty fair day.  I'll let him tell his own story.

I motored a ways further east from the harbor before starting to fish.  Wasn't seeing much on sonar where I had done well on my last trip.  Kept dragging fligs and white basslets until I started to find a few in 6-7 feet of water.  That depth worked best for me all day.  Although I did get one decent sized kitty on a brief search cruise to about 5' of water.

Before I quit at 11:30 I brought in about 16 cats.  Most were "average" 2-footers.  Got a couple of 25s and several bigger ones up to about 28".  Got most on blue-back silver fligs adorned with a small white bass.  Got a couple on "Perple Perch" colored fligs and several on plain bait (whitette) being dragged on the bottom.

Water was very calm early and became a light but steady ripple most of the morning.  Never enough of a breeze to be a problem.  Just enough for a good drift.  Water was also a "walleye green" color...unusual for Utah Lake.  But did not see any algae.
