I have navigated all the way around the island in safe depth water that is about 3 ft deep in low water years, and saved that route marking on my GPS.  I never go past that line in the water unless I move very slow, motor trimmed up as far as I dare and still keep the water intake in the water. Any time I get to 2 fow I reverse a few yards and drop anchor.  When I leave the island, I always follow my ingress mark back out until I get to good depth (5-6 ft)
