My guess is a carplet.  I just got a few that size down at Utah Lake with a cast net.  Young carp grow fast but are a big part of the predators' diets until they get too big in the late fall.  Biggest shad from this year's hatch might be 4-5".  Most are much smaller.

By the way, it sounds like you have been studying your lessons in "fligonometry".  You did well, Grasshoppah.
Thanks Pat between you and Curt’s tutorials I think I have a handle on Willard cat fligging. I do need to replenish my supply of fligs when we get out together. What do you think of getting out on Columbus Day or should we wait until later in the month?
