Nice, glad you started to get into them, it should continue to improve over the next few weeks. The info you added is what I've been posting about for over the last month, you have to get deeper to catch those fish early in the season, whether it by using lead core line, snap weights or as you found out, keel weights. As Tubedude always states, the bottom is where the food is, early in the season and if you aren't within a few feet of the bottom, the catching is harder. Not to say you can't catch them in the upper water column but there are fewer fish there, the biggest numbers are within 2 to 3 ft of the bottom. How much keel weight were you using?
We have been bottom bouncing and doing fine, trolling speed 1.2 to 1.5., 16 t0 21 ft. of water. will be there all next week.
