How to choose the right fishing line and color

have been testing out different lines from different companies and so far i have found there here in west tenn. they prefer a smoke to moss green ,i have had6 different poles set the same lure at same depthand have not one bite on florocarbon as of yet butwant to test it some more on a few more areas.
