Boulder Reservoir

Spring is a great time to fish Boulder. Aquatic weeds will increase as weather warms, using a float tube is a great way to get out to the open water.
Flies: Bead head nymphs and scud patterns usually work well. Lures: small spinners.
Boulder was stocked this spring with 1,125 rainbow trout.

Carson River Pat Sollberger Regional Biologist reports the stocking begins at East Carson River at Broken Dam and Carson River at Carson City and Dayton Get out fishing while the flows are still there.

Fort Churchill Cooling Ponds

Pat Sollberger Regional Biologist reports Largemouth bass and channel catfishing should be good. Opening day saw each angler catching several bass with some up to 5lbs. Catfish are running about 8-12 inches
For largemouth; plastic worms, top-water either early or late in the day, and small minnow-like crank baits. For catfish, night crawlers and calf's livers have been doing best

Hobart Reservoir

Early summer is one of the best times to fish Hobart. The reservoir is full and the water is clear. Shore fishing tends to yield more brook trout, where as anglers who can get out into deeper water will catch more rainbows.
Flies: prince nymph, hare's ear, damsel nymph, wooly bugger. Lures: small light colored spinners. Anglers may want to target the creek inlet for staging rainbow trout.
Hobart is scheduled to receive 1,500 rainbow trout in June. Hobart gets little pressure, so carryover trout are abundant even before stocking occurs.

Lahontan Reservoir, Carson River

Hinkson Slough stocked with over 4000 10-inch rainbow trout. Plus trout from last year should be getting bigger. Submergant vegetation increasing.
Small, orange colored or silver colored spinners worked well this time of year. Fly anglers are doing well on black birds nests fished near the bottom. The size of trout is running between 13 and 16 inches
North Pond is empty of water and not to refill until later this year.

Pine Forest Complex

Blue Lakes

Knott Creek Onion

Knott Ck. was fair to good with several fish caught over 20" on the opener 6/12. Onion was excellent for the opener with lots of fish caught by most anglers, with the majority of the fish in the 12 to 16" range. Blue Lake was also good with brook trout up to 15" and cutbows up to 19". Low water at Onion and Blue.
Only artificial lures (& flies) with single barbless hooks may be used at Knott Ck. Res. Limit is 1 trout, minimum size 18". Five fish limit at Onion & Blue.

Squaw Creek Reservoir Squaw Reservoir continues to be the fishing hot spot this spring. Anglers are reporting catching lots of trout from plants this spring in addition to carryover rainbow and brown trout from previous stocking efforts. Some anglers are targeting bullhead catfish and catching nice ones up to 11 inches.
Olive and peacock colored nymphs are catching fish using a very slow retrieve. The bite has been soft, so be patient and pay attention. If the water is turbid (muddy), use darker colors (black). Try wooly buggers, sheep creek, prince nymph, birds nest. Shore anglers are having success floating worms off the bottom.
Squaw has been stocked with over 6,000 catchable rainbow trout this spring.

Topaz Lake and Canal

Open / Open

Truckee River The spring flows are ramping down and are around 400 cfs through Reno/Sparks which which is making fishing a little easier. Flows below Derby Dam are much lower than the rest of the river and provides good fishing this time of year, although anglers will want to fish it in the early morning to hit the cooler water temperatures. While fish densities are fairly low in this section, there are some very large fish lurking down there.
Bait Fishing- drifting worms with enough weight to bounce off the bottom. Flies: Nymph fishing deep and slow may result in bites. Lures: rapalas have produced some nice fish.
To date, over 50,000 catcheable trout have been stocked from Painted Rock to Crystal Peak Park. Species include rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout. In addition, there are a lot of carryover and wild trout to be caught as well. Use caution in wading the river this time of year, flows above 400 cfs can be dangerous.

Walker Lake Fishing is slowing down due to higher temperatures some fish are still shallow, The algae is starting to scum on the surface. Only the dedicated fisherman are out.

East Walker River
special regulation waters

Fishing is fair- due to very low river flows 29 CFS. May have some ice cover.
Wooly buggers, prince nymphs, hares ear, san Juan worm
Fish are easily stressed this time of year due to low flows - Treat with care when releasing! Don't forget, whitefish are just as challenging and fun to catch as rainbow and brown trout.

West Walker River Rainbow trout stocking begn in April, but trout stocked last October should still provide some angling.

Wall Canyon Reservoir

Anglers should be advised that water levels are extremely low by historic standards. However, the reservoir is still fishable. Spring stocked rainbow and carryover rainbow and brown trout are available to anglers. As temperatures heat up, smallmouth bass will feed more actively.
Water in Wall Canyon tends to be turbid (muddy), use dark colored lures. If using bait, use slip bobber or float bait off the bottom to keep it from hungry crayfish.
Wall Canyon received 1,500 10-inch rainbow trout this spring.

Washoe county urban ponds [ul] [li]Sparks Marina [li]Paradise Pond [li]Virginia Lake [li]Idlewild Ponds [li]Rancho San Rafael Pond [li]Wilson Commons [li]Marilyn's Pond [/li][/ul]Spring fishing at the urban ponds is in full swing. All ponds have been stocked so trout are available to anglers. Sparks Marina, Virginia Lake and the Paradise Ponds have all received channel catfish plants in past years with few anglers taking advantage of them. Trout will be most active in the mornings, catfish fishing picks up in the afternoon and evenings.
Sparks Marina: Target different depths using a slip bobber. All other ponds: float a worm or power bait off the bottom. Use a bobber in areas where weeds are an issue.
All urban ponds have been stocked multiple times with rainbow trout. Sparks Marina, Paradcise Ponds and Virginia Lake will all be stocked again this year with channel catfish by June 23.

Washoe Lake

Extremely low water conditions. Some anglers are reporting catching large catfish and carp at the State Park boat ramps (north and south).
Catfish have been biting on worms and chicken liver. The water is very shallow, cast your bait out as far as you can. Some anglers are wading out a ways before casting to get to a little deeper water.
