This is an excellent thread. I am in the works of planning a trip to Pineview Reservoir end of September to go after 'the fish of 1000 casts'. I was up there fishing for smallmouth a month or so back and landed 1 40 incher and hooked one that was so big that I brought it close to shore with my 25 lb test line and got about 5 feet away and it saw my legs and turned and bolted. When the line went tight it came up out of the water and I got a good look at it. Easily over 50 inches, the top back fin was about 5-7 inches tall. Keep in mind I was in waders and waded in so I got completed drenched from head to toe fighting this one. While fighting this monster for about 20 minutes it chomped and broke the line (which is why i went to braided 30 pound line from now on). What a bummer but it was good fun, I got a good up close look at it and it definately gave me the itch. I WANT TO LAND A MONSTER!
I need a bigger net if I plan to get some of these landed when I go out on my pontoon.
