RECORDED: 78 ° FISHING: Good
Owyhee River
Good
I fished the river last Thursday and it was very good. I saw a lot of fish but they were very picky. There were a few fish eating Mahogany Duns, some fish eating Baetis, and some were eating midges so it was very hard to figure out what they were eating. They ate a lot of nymphs and emergers. Some adult bugs were being eaten but an emerger under a dry or a nymph worked very well. There were quite a few people on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I caught most of my fish nymphing and my buddy caught most of his on emergers, which ever way you are more confident in fishing is the way you should fish. Also watch for caddis in the evenings. Please remember that it is getting close to time for the browns to spawn so lets try and give this river as little pressure as possible. I know it is not illegal but it is unethical.
Flies: Beadhead Pheasant Tail, 16-20, Prince Nymphs, 16-20, Copper Johns, 16-18, PMD Emergers, 16-18, Callibaetis Emergers, 16-18, Baetis Hatchmatcher, 20, PMD Comparadun, 16-18, Olive Midges, 18-20, Black Midges, 18-20, Baetis Emergers, 18-20, Olive Emergers, 18-20, Parachute Callibaetis, 16-20, Mahogany Comparadun, 16-18, Crane Fly Skater, 8-10, Crane Fly Nymph, 8-10.
