When we made the side by side comparisons, there were some obvious differences...besides the price (About $200). The SFC has bigger air chambers and more flotation. It also has bigger pockets and a pocket behind the seat compartment. Handy.
The SFC is about a hundred dollars more than the regular Fat Cat, which is in the middle of the FC4 and the SFC. It features the inflatable seat, rather than the hard foam, and has a bit more flotation. It is all the craft I need, and that is saying something. I am 6'3" and about 250#. I float high and am quite comfortable.
It would be a good move to "download" your FC4 to a young family member. It will be a good craft to learn with. Good design and plenty of quality features for the average tuber. Of course, if you want all the bells and whistles, you DO have to invest more.
