The bad will make good for PortAransas!

Got your attention, did I?

The word is not bad at all but it realy is a good thing.

One of our populer fishing piers is closing. That is a bad thought with out explanation. Let me explane then.

The closure of the Caldwell pier on the open gulf is an over due need to make repairs and upgrades. It is only a temperary thing as the repairs are to correct the damage from the years of use and weather since it was reopened as a concrete pier. The original pier was built of wood and the many storms and hurricanes had made it totaly beyond repair. The newer concrete pier is a bit shorter but built in somewhat a moduler dezine. This allows many repairs from storm damage to be quickly dealt with.
I do not currently have the info on the time span of the repairs but remember, that while it is closed for repairs we have many other options for pier fishing.
To fish the gulf from a simaler pier, just head south to BobHall pier as it hosts some great oppertunitys just as Caldwell does for the angler.
The PortA area hosts many piers allong the ship channel. The brundett pier at the north end of Station St. is one of my choices. It is close to the gulf entrance and the south jetty. It might be a small pier but has prooven time after time capable of producing some great fish.
