I have been fly fishing for almost 30 years. I love all kinds of fishing but my first love is fly fishing. You mention purists...do your own thing. I fly fish, tie my own flies, build my own fly rods, etc. I also throw dead minnows and shrimp for catfish, plugs and jigs for wipers, plastics and topwater for bass, jigs for lake trout, cutting holes through the ice, etc. Fishing to me is the single most relaxing therapy I could ask for. We are fortunate to live close to all kinds of fish species and have numerous options as to how to take them. The fun comes from the study of the species you choose and coming up with ways to catch them. Enjoy "whatever blows your dress up". Just be ethical. Obey the rules, respect property, care for the area where you fish, take only what you will use. You don't have to be set on one species and one method. Those who do really miss out on other very satisfying ways to enjoy this great resource. Enjoy the outdoors, take your family and laugh out loud. You only live once. Enjoy it!
