Redmond Bust
#3
Tube dude hit the nail on the head in all areas of redmond. Being a local and from god's country; my two cents about redmond pike. Any day can be a slow day fishing for any kind of fish. The problem with redmond the last two years is the fish are very few. Because of lack of catch and release. At last years party there were only approx. four fish caught all day with ten to twelve rods in the water. That's why I expressed for them to catch and release so there would still be some to catch. Five years ago it was a boom year and it was nothing to catch 12 to 24 inchers every ten minutes. As for me holding the title of pikeman I once held the state record out of Yuba for 3 years till some one proved that they could certify a fish with smaller length and girth but make it weigh more than mine. I used to fish redmond none stop in my early years. At one time my friend held the state record on pike out of redmond which weighed 19 pounds 2 ounces after sitting in the back of his truck for approx. 3 hours. Could have lost 2-3 pounds approx. water weight. So it is my belief that there is still some pike in redmond along with catfish and large mouth. We are in what you call a bust year. Last year I made it to no mooses's party pointed them the most likely spot to catch fish and paid the price hearing it from the locals about dragging all these people down to fish redmond lake. So as a local I invite you to fish redmond and I ask again to bring your camera take a picture and then turn them loose.
The minerals in the springs make the fish the nastiest fish you will ever eat. So have your party no moose , I'll be fishing at the big berry before there is no more time. P.S. my pike was 47 and 3/4 inches long with a 20 and an 1/8th inch girth. You do the math.
