Flaming Gorge Koke trip
#1
Went up to the Gorge on Thursday with Sockeyeslayer. We met up with another friend in Mountain View and off to the lake at mach speed to get on the water as soon as possible. We took Sockeyeslayer's boat and as always he was a gracious host. We got on the lake Thursday evening along with a very minimal but very cold breeze. The fishing was slow to say the least so back to the parking lot to spend the night.

Friday we woke to a cold morning and got on the lake to find the fishing slow again. We did end up getting into a handful of kokanee and a couple of trout before the day was through. The kokanee were nice sized for this time of year. We fished throughout the day and ended the day with a bar-b-q of some fish and steak. There's not much better than a fresh grilled kokanee that was pulled from the lake not 30 minutes before cooking it.

Saturday morning we got into the kokanee within the first 2 minutes of putting our lines in the water and had some quick action for about an hour before the fish got lock jaw. It was cold again this morning and with the water on the deck of the boat turning to ice it felt like an ice skating rink before it ended up warming up beautifully. We fished for most of the day and picked up a couple small kokes and rainbows before we headed home.

All in all a great trip with beautiful weather and great company. It sure makes it hard to come back to work after a weekend of fishing. I think our total was just over 20 kokanee and just under a dozen trout with one dinker laker included. Once again the Shasta cripplure kicked butt and caught the most fish out of everything we threw at them. The fish size for this early was encouraging and should make for some great sized fish later in the summer when the koke's really start hitting.

I put some pictures along with the post to show some of the fish as well as what the kokanee meat looked like after it was filleted. I have more pictures and if I have time I will add them to this post later.
