the eye is porportionatly to big. this is concistant with the minow family....
take a look at two entries I made in this years 16 species contest.
I know a couple guys who were bragging about catching these near where I fish and was saying they were trout when in fact they are minnows. the "CO" didnt know any better eather took away thier gear and issued tickets to the anglers....
the "CO" came up on me one day and I set him streight. the eye is the give away.
the one rainbow minnow in my entry has a cosin that is all silver like this one and the species is called "Giant Minow" it grows in the northern mid west regeon that we share.... This is the one you have caught. I caught a few the same day as the rainbow but just did not think to add this one to the list.
many people mistake these for trout, they are edible, I have eaten a few of the larger ones, they are vary difficult to clean... and the flesh is mushy and needs to cook a little longer than a gill.
congrats, that is a nice specimen, they do get up to 8-9 inches in lenth. be sure that if you dont plan on using it for bait to put them back, those are good breeders. one hatching of a single fish will fill your minnow bucket for a year...
natorius bait stealers... I have a spot to go when I just want to drown a few worms....
