Hey nate you'll find better fishing farther up the canyon fishing the stream itself with worms or small hoppers. You can use flies too with good success. You have to sneak up the stream carefully because they receive heavy pressure sometimes and are skittish. You can catch fish there all year round though. I've done pretty good up there wading the stream even in February.
The Hobble Creek Catch Basin, as the DWR calls it, is mostly full of the planter rainbows. You'll get mostly browns if you go farther up, although they do stock rainbows in the deeper pools higher in the canyon by the campgrounds as well. It's a fun little river to fish.
