Bear Lake Report

Got the pleasant opportunity to go out and fish with Mark (Rileyfish) last week. I would like to say… Mark and his family are top notch people and very kind and generous. I would consider them as friends and look forward to many more opportunities to enjoy their company. Mark…. I cannot thank you enough for such a fun day on our pond. You Sir are a true fisherman and a dear friend. Like we talked about, fishing is about the experience and not the catch. A one fish day is icing on the cake. I enjoyed your company and hope to make many posts here about our great fishing days on the big blue pond.

We launched at Cisco with great intentions of trolling or jigging a nice cutt or Mack. Mother Nature, luck, skill, or whatever was not in our favor. Nice boat, awesome company, and a hangover made for an interesting day. The hangover was due to the fact that we tried to go out the day prior but a “W” came up and changed our plans ever so quickly. What else could I do but have a few snorts to get over my depression. LOL We trolled for some time using lead line, mono, and downriggers (nice setup), with an endless assortment of offerings. We marked fish in many depths but the feeding was non-existent. This time of year is tough fishing and we were driven off once the watercraft people started out for a day of fun.

I went out a couple more times throughout the week with my boy and his friends. We fished off the rocks at the State Marina and slayed the suckers. My son caught a nice little cutt and wanted to keep it for his dinner. I obliged and he ate a fine fillet as a reward for his efforts. The truth being is he hooked it pretty deep and it probably would not have survived the release, but he was willing to learn filleting and proper fish handling to ensure a tasty meal.

All in all a great 10 days at my favorite place on earth. Two more weeks and I plan to do it again. This fall should be a blast for fishing with the higher water levels.
