I got busted once for fishing without a license many, many years ago in Oak City canyon. The warden knew me and knew that I had purchased a license that year, but I forgot my wallet. He gave me a ticket, but said that all I had to do was show him my license and the ticket would go away. I always make sure that I have it with me at all times now. And a 2nd pole permit. Not only utah lake, but gunnison bend and DMAD, where I like to fish. havent' been this year though.
