Kolob Res in Southern Utah. You can camp right on the lake, and it's a popular fly-fishing spot. This is a "Blue Ribbon" lake, the limit is 1 fish 22" long, and everything else must be released.
Your up at about the 8500-foot level in the aspens; I love fishing this lake and recommend it to you and your boy. I know you don't want to drive this far, but you would enjoy the trip and especially the views of Zion as Kolob is above the park.
They say orange earplugs with a sinker off the bottom are nailing them right now. Because of the Artificial lure only law, these orange earplugs make a good alternative to power bait.
