Tis the season - well, almost anyway ... Ice !
#21
The best advice I can give you is, use what your comfortable with.

Some folks prefer casting reel set ups while others use spinning outfits. I personally use both depending on the situation. I do own a jet sled and a couple augers among a few other comforts but in all honesty auger's arent even called for when the ice first sets in. A common spud bar cuts a hole just as fast through ice up to 4" and takes up less space. Whats more it can be used to test the ice as you wander out and re-open existing holes. As far as FF'ers well again that a personal choice. I run 2000 wats peek to peek most of the time while many others run far more and less. The ideal is to see you offering at any depth you choose to fish. I'm often pearing in depths of over 100' so a little more power comes in handy. A light weight sled is very handy for carrying your equipment. I used a common child's plastic winter sled about 5' long for year! Whats more a person can easily toss in a fold up chair to avoid setting on a bucket (ouch!).
Again, my best advice is use what your comfortable with but get out and turn some heads upward and have fun at it!
