Flygodded, my list is very close to your suggestion list.
Less #4 and #5. Instead of those 2 flies,I have used a Caddis and a Renegade or Double Renegade.
As you all know the smaller flies like a Griffith's Gnat is the hardest one for beginners. I start them on a size 16 hook at first.
Dubbing seems to be the next hardest thing for them to learn.
It has been very rewarding to have students come to me after they have had the classes and express their joy in catching fish on flies that I helped them learn to tie.
