Willard 7/20/06 (report)

Launched out of the north marina about 5:30. We trolled the standard Willard stuff for about an hour around the north end before our first hookup. After watching the birds and some other boats we decided to chase fish since trolling was kinda slow. We headed along the dike toward the light pole when the fish starting boiling. We hit a boil right up next to the dike that lasted about 10 minutes. We had singles, doubles, breakoffs, etc happening so fast it would make your head spin. We then decided to try and get away from some of the other boats and headed back north. We stayed close to the dike and would wait for one or two fish to roll and we start casting again. A couple of times the water would just explode with boiling wipers. We even got a triple out of one of the larger boils. We were the only boat chasing the wipers back towards the north. We stayed until about 9:30 and got off the water. The bugs were not too bad either. We caught one fish trolling and 22 casting. The 4 inch white grub with a green head was the ticket. Cast and reel just as fast as you could when it hit the water. Great evening to be on the water. Make sure you have all of your lights working if you stay until dark. The sherriff was giving multiple tickets for no lights or only one light.
