Here in the US, pike is a prized fish...while in Europe it's considered a trash fish while carp which is considered a trash fish here is a prized fish in Europe...go figure, LOL
Personally, I get in a lot of verbal fights with guys here who I see catch a magnificent bowfin (some call a mudfish) and toss it up on the bank to die! I think bowfin are one of the finest fighters there are...I just love catching them. Haven't caught a gar yet, but I'm still hoping to one day. . . and as to the mighty carp - I caught one this spring that went 11lb., 14 oz. on my ultralite and it was a long hard battle on the light gear...lot's of fun.
The only fish I consider to be trash fish in this country are those fish that are illegally introduced that are truly destructive to the other species: snakehead, gobies, silver carp, etc.
