Do we not pay state and federal taxes and therefore have some ownership not only of the land, but the water taht passes over it ? [/reply]
umm....well, actually no. We don't have any ownership of the water (Sevier River) that passes over the public land. Those water rights are owned privately. The public doesn't own any of that water. In fact, some of the sources that make up the Sevier River actually come from private land, but those land owners don't necessarily have any ownership of that water either.
I'd love to see some conservation pools, and some in-stream flows regulated on the Sevier River system. But, in it's current state, we don't have any owenership of that water. Until we purchase some of the water rights, we have no say in how that water is used.
Who is to say that we, as fishermen, are the ones with the correct view on how the water should be used? I'm sure that the agricultural community that ownes the water would have a differeing opinion than that of pinksnapper - political parties aside.
