well, my first try at using my new tip up was a failure. i thought i had a great rig, but on that day (1/6/07) the fish wanted active jigging. i didnt get a single hit on the tip up because it had no motion, but i caught plenty on my jigging pole. i also think that the 20# leader i was using was too heavy/visible.
the second attempt 1/15/07 on strawberry was a different story. today the fish wanted active jigging for the most part, but also took some dead sticked baits as well. i added some bells to my flag so that i could hear, as well as see, when/if i got a hit. i was stoked the first time those bells started ringing! i managed to get a few on the tip up today and it was a lot of fun to have that added little bit of entertainment. aside from the fish being in a different mood, i think it helped that i scaled my leader down to 6# test line.
thanks to those who took the time to give me rig recommendations! i always appreciate it when bft'ers take the time to help each other out. i certainly have been on the recieving end of this help many times. thanks guys!
