It's stocked pretty frequently so there's really no "best" time to fish it. Only thing I'd suggest is to try and avoid weekends and holiday's to cut back on the number of anglers. With kids I've always found that a worm or powerbait works best about 3' off the bottom. North side is easily accessable but also a little shallower and often more weeds. South side is deeper but a little more difficult to get to. Good luck and have fun with the kids!
