[black]On a one day trip this early, you'll mostly be targeting chickens with an occasional blue fin in the mix. Learn to throw chovies on a 25 lb outfit. Anchovies are candy to albacore but flylining them takes a bit of practice. You should be able to cast 50-70 feet with nothing more than a live bait hook and a pinhead chovy. Longer, supple rods help. If you're using rental gear, I'm sorry; none of it is made to cast worth a crap. [/black]

[black]6" swim baits with 1-1/2 to 2 ounce heads are great for fishing the slide on a 30 lb outfit. Blue and green colors work the best. I doubt you'll want to throw iron but it can be very effective sometimes.[/black]

[black]If you start jumping kelp paddies, have a few in-line, 2-4 oz sinkers, preferably chrome dipped. Tie them on with a 6' leader and a sardine and sink it fast. It's a good technique to pick up yellowtail that go deep when the boat pulls up to the paddy.[/black]

[black]Wish I was going. I love long range fishing! Nothing better. I'd rather do it than go to Alaska.[/black]
