In general, a bait caster reel has better drag for 2 reasons on the spool is inline with the eyes of the rod there is no 90 degree turn so it comes smoother off the spool, the 2nd and kind of related item is there is no bial to rub the line on, which only makes a diference when you keep reeling when a big fish is taking drag,,,you see this commen mistake especially with kids the fish is taking drag and they keep cranking away on the handle, the increased friction (heat)if kept up will soon seperate the fish from the rod by braking the line at the reel. Bait casters are a little tricky to learn but once mastered they are less likely to bird nest ( the kindaof bird nest that shoots out the eyes, dont get me wrong try to cast a baitcaster and let the lure wrap around something on the boat and its a different kind of birdnest)on the cast due to line twist like a spinning reel does.
