By no means am I a pro at this, but...
I typically only buy combo's from Cabelas... never had anything fail, but I'm only fishing panfish, stream trout and bass.
My local tackle shop deals in Shimano rods. They offer a lifetime warrenty. You break a rod, take it back to them, they replace it on the spot. No questions, no hassles, no problems. You walk out with a new rod.
They are a dealer, so they can do that. You will pay more than Cabelas or Bass Pro. But It might be worth it in the end.
