The best step by step instructions for tying on the web have to be Charlie Cravens of Charlies fly box.
You can google -Charlies fly box arvada colorado - I am sure it will come up on the first page of returns. click on the fly box option. select a fly from the pull down menu. It will show a detailed description of the fly but there will be another option you can pick to get step by step instructions.
Check out a woolly bugger, the adams. parachute adams, copper john. Jujju bee. pheasant tail, hairs ear. You will learn a lot. There are lots of other excellent patterns on his site All with detailed step by step instructions with good hints and lots of pictures.
Places like Cabelas, Bass Pro, Gander Mountain often have free fly tying classes. That is how I first learned.
When I was visiting my brother several years ago I also went to a couple of free fly tying classes put on by the San Diego Fly Fishers.
A good alternative is to Visit Dry Rod and offer to buy the beer and tacos.
Skip Morris's Fly tying Clear and Simple is excellent book.
I found the "Universal Fly Tying" book to have excellent additional information about hooks, feathers, and fur.
