I found an interesting thing about my 70 hp Johnson when I was at Willard the other day. I have always had trouble with it running at low speed. It will idle in the driveway or on the Lake in neutral. But in gear and slow speed it just dies. Makes it so you can't troll with it and it makes it hard to load on the trailer.
At Willard because of how shallow it is.I started out of the launch area with the motor raised up and due to all the wind I kinda forgot about lowering it after starting to fish. Because of the wind I also didn't switch to the little trolling motor. But the big motor was idling down and we were trolling about 2-2.5mph with no problems. When I finally realized that I had not lowered the motor I lowered it and it promptly died. I raised it back up and we trolled the rest of the evening without a problem. It didn't even die when I loaded the boat. (A first) I can't explain it, but maybe someone else here can.
