I'd like to officially offer my apologies. (re-baiting my hook)
I have absolutely NO problem with those Canucks keeping that rainbow. In fact, I would have slapped both of them had they thought about releasing that fish! A good skin mount beats the pants off a replication mount any day!
My post was more about the way we cry foul over local fishermen keeping big fish, then turn our cheek when we see big fish kept in other parts of the world. Our precious little mackinaw in Flaming Gorge are just too valuable for anyone to keep -- but that lake that none of us have fished? Those guys that fish it can keep all the trophies they want!
So, here's the big question: If a fisherman happens to land a lake trout from Flaming Gorge that would break the current state record, is it ok for him to keep it? Or, is the fish just too valuable to kill?
