Jordanelle PWC area report 9-26-07
#1
[cool]Copied and pasted from the Float Tubing Board:

[size 2][blue]Got spoiled last week in Idaho. Came back to Utah and had to put up with abuse and poor fishing.

Swedishfish and I launched at the PWC ramp about 7 AM. Second cast FISH ON... a small slimer at 7:05. Caught several more near shore on a new fire tiger spinner I was trying. They hit hard and fought well but not worth keeping.

The water temp was 59 at launch...quite a bit warmer than the 31 degree air temp. A mist was rising off the lake, which was rippled by a light early breeze. That made a nice effect when viewed along with the early sunlight on the bright leaves on the nearby hillsides. Who cares if the fishing is slow on such a purty morning? I did.

After deciding there were not any larger troutskis near shore, I moved out into deeper water. Switched to jigs on the bottom. I thought the sonar was broken. Nothing but a straight line on the bottom, with no fishy interruptions.

Swedishfish picked up a couple of bitty bass and I finally got into a small school of small perch. Nothing over about six inches. Real tackle testers. Worked from 8' to 30' without finding anything worthy of excitement. Decided to kick across the bay to the "quarry" area.

Had a couple of hits on spinners while motating across the open water. No hookups. When I reached the heavily structured and waterless shoreline I kept tossing the spinner along the visible structure. Caught a few more dinky perch in shallow water and one about 9 inches. It turned out to be the largest perch of the day for me. Swedishfish didn't get any perch.

Just as I rounded the point into the quarry cove, I fired a few casts with the trusty red glitter roadrunner, with the red and chartreuse skirt. Several under twelve smallies wanted to play so I exercised 'em, gave 'em a smooch and sent 'em back down to grow up some more. Had one about 16" that only wanted to come up as far as the tube, had a good look at me and gave me the jig back. Got the enjoys out of him before the "professional release" anyway.

Worked around to the area where I had found lots of perch a couple of weeks earlier. All I found this trip was dry shoreline and naked tree branches in my "honey hole". The lake is still dropping fast...too fast. Couldn't find any remnants of the school I fished last time. Fished from shallow out to about 30 feet. Had a couple of small fish hooked in 24 feet of water but they wrapped me on the thick structure before I got them to the top. I hate it when that happens.

About 9 the south breeze had started rippling the waters. By 10 it was stronger. About 10:30 it was getting bothersome. Since there were no fish to offset the fun of the bouncy ride, we decided to wind troll back to the launch area to see if anything had moved in on the gravel banks.

The long kick back was uneventful, but the hills were still worth frequent looks. Only a few tiny pecks from little perchlets near the ramp so we wasted no more time on them. We got out and were on the way home by noon. As Swedishfish observed "Still better than working or sitting around the house." That's what we say when the fishing is poor.
