[size 1]BEAR LAKE: Surface water temperature at Bear Lake is 54° F! Launching is no longer available at First Point ramp or Rainbow Cove ramp due to low water levels. The ramp at Cisco Beach and the Bear Lake State Park Marina are still available. The lake level is over four feet lower than the peak level from this spring. The best luck has come to anglers who are trolling with downriggers in about 60 to 65 feet of water using rapalas, spoons, and flatfish right on the bottom. A few anglers are jigging with tube jigs tipped with cisco and catching fish too. The best spots to type for either trolling or jigging is off Gus Rich Point and from Cisco Beach north into Idaho. No one had reported any fish coming right off the rockpile at Ideal Beach or on the new rockpiles north of the marina as of yet. No luck was reported by anglers casting from shore at the Utah State Park marina, but action in this area should pick up at anytime. Lake trout are beginning to stage prior to the spawning season and the catching should really pick up in the new couple of weeks. Remember a Utah license is valid on the Idaho side of Bear Lake, but you may not use a second pole when fishing on the Idaho side of the lake. Idaho license holders are only able to use one fishing pole on either side of the lake this year. HYRUM RESERVOIR: Fishing activity has tapered way off, yet these are still a few reports of good fishing from shore.
LOGAN RIVER: Vic Nelson of Roundrocks flyshop suggests that anglers try fishing Logan River tributaries such as Right Fork and Temple Fork. He reported good fishing for brook trout in Right Hand Fork. With warmer days this past week fish were still taking hopper imitations-severe weather forecasted for this weekend will change that!
MANTUA RESERVOIR: One angler reported (and had photos to prove it!) very successful fishing trip in rough weather last week.
MIRROR LAKE AND UINTAS LAKES: Severe weather is forecast for this weekend. Avoid high country lakes and try fishing lower elevations.
OGDEN RIVER: The Ogden River through town was fishing good. Try this spot after or before (or even during) work.
PINEVIEW RESERVOIR: Good fishing still continues! Surface water temperature is at 58° F. Turnover can occur anywhere between 58 and 60° F. DWR habitat biologist Kent "Sorno" Sorenson thinks the cold snap could hasten turnover. He noted that the deepest water in the reservoir is 40 feet. Boat launching is still possible at the Port ramp. Progress is being made on getting tiger muskie restocked in Pineview. Warm Water Fishery Coordinator Drew Cushing reports that an agreement was made with the state of Kentucky to take their excess tiger muskie to be stocked in Pineview and Newton. While this is an optimistic step, the fish still need to undergo a rigorous disease testing phase, so biologists are "cautiously optimistic" about tiger muskie future stockings.
ROCKPORT RESERVOIR: Bob Hicks of Hooper indicated that fishing was good for perch using half a nightcrawler. Trout fishing was reported to be good.
WEBER RIVER: Portions of the Weber below Echo Reservoir (e.g., dam downstream to Stoddard) have variable flows. Fishing is good with spinners and flies hares ear, pheasant tail, prince nymphs etc. when flows/turbidity permit in this reach. Below Stoddard has generally been clear and fishing for brown trout with above tackle was good. Fishing for brown trout and especially mountain whitefish between Echo and Rockport was excellent and should continue until flows increase.
WILLARD BAY: The DWR will be meeting with officials from the Bureau of Reclamation and Willard Bay State Park to discuss dike repair issues. More information will be posted in this report as it is available. [/size]
