Houghton Lake
#1
[Image: gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=31640;]The ice is about 4" to 6" thick in the area we went to and was making more all the time we were there . Ice boats and snowmobiles all over the lake very few fishermen were seen dispite the ideal fishing conditions we encountered .
Nothing but a few hammer handles , some crappie and some gills hitting , we were after something a little different ..
Any guesses as to what fish we were targeting ?
We fished deep , with a light action rods , 2# test line and waxworms if that helps .
Hotels were almost vacant , I would strongley sugest going to one of those websites to get a bottom line deal on rooms , this is the off season for the area , but for ice fishermen , what a deal !
We stayed at the comfort suite hotel on the west side , fridge , microwave , cable , a resturant with great meals , a breakfast bar , and a pool area with a mini water park and 2 large hot tubs .

A perfect family get away for a weekend , toss in some ice fishing and you got all bases covered for quality family and fishing time .
