[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, those were the days. Those perch were toads. I also used big jigging spoons...up to 1/2 oz. Kastmasters and my own "perch urchins" I made from hammering 1 oz. long sinkers flat and then decorating them with prism tape and paint. I experimented and found that there was nothing "too big", if a fish wanted it. I even caught some big perch on some leftover saltwater slab spoons that were about 4" to 6" long. It helped to put a big piece of perch meat on one of the hooks, but that was not always necessary.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Remembering that, I have just completed pouring and painting a bunch of jigs, slab spoons and blade baits bigger than I normally use for the "average" perch in most of our lakes. I plan to fish them with large single hooks, rather than trebles, and to use big chunks of minnow, "carp cutlets" or perch meat to sweeten them. The little fish will still drive you wacko with their peck-peck-peck. But, when you feel a THUMP...and some weight...you can set the hook and expect something larger than the skinny six inchers. Might even score a walleye or northern. I used to catch a few through the ice at Yuba using the "heavy artillery".[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm attaching pics of some of my old stuff, along with some of the fish we used to catch on them. Note those crude looking hammered sinkers. They still work, but have been referred to as "wheel weights". Some folks got no appreciation for the old tried and true stuff...like me.[/#0000ff]
