YES there are some big stripers in upper Lake Mead. This year it has been very hard to locate them. I have seen a few 20's a 27 and a few in between 10 and 15 pounds. I have gone out for 15 hours straight and only get one fish. Sometimes nothing. I know a few guides and they say the same thing. Above and below the dam they are just not that interested yet this year.
The best times above the dam for larger fish is between dec and march. Below the dam at willow beach and cotton wood cove is year round due to the cold water and the trout plants year round. But in the winter months alot of the fish move down to cotton wood. The summer months willow is better.
The lure of choice is the AC plug in trout pattern. There are all different kinds of lures they all work well.
I get out before sun rise and flat line troll one plug behind the boat. I use my trolling motor and cast another toward the shore. After the sun rises for a few hours I just troll two lines between 20 to 60 feet. Very slow troll or if it is calm I use trolling motor. Good luck with the new ride. dle cove. The Hemenway wall has produced big fish at times also.
The first week of Feb Las Vegas marina will be relocated down by the Hemenway marina on the other side of the paddle boats.
