you let the line out to about 1-2 feet depending how much bend you have in your rod from the loaded position to its upright postioin.
take a tape measure and measure the distance from the tip of the rod to the loading pin. mark it that number on your slammer as a reminder...
On my reel I have an added option of throing the battle drag leaver to slip and I can pull out more line if I want to lower it, if I want to raise it, I just have to reel it up, but like any fire arm stand behind the barrol of the gun...[
