This post caught my eye. I was reading through everything and hearing that the rod need not be expensive, but the reel is a whole different ball game.
Then I had to come to the realization, you are not talking Fly Fishing, which is the complete opposite with a good line mixed in with the equation.
Back when I did spin fish I am going to agree with Lunker all the way. An Ugly stick. I preferred Shimano front drag reels.
I Thought that fly fishing was expensive till I started looking at the Bait, Spinning, etc and come to the conclusion...FISHING IS EXPENSIVE.
as far as the High End gear, I don't like where the prices are going, but face it, for good USA made gear you got to pay.
I do feel better about a fly rod being rolled and assembled by a master of the trade rather than an assembly line.
Personally, I do think there is a big difference in the HIGH END and the budget wise. QUALITY of the material and how it is put together.
The fact that we can catch fish on less just proves that man/woman will overcome and adapt.
The high end Fly rods you can tell how sensitive it will be by the weight , the material and the action.
I have an 8 wt 9 foot in an upper end that weighs a little over 2 oz. I like that cause i can cast it all day with no problem.
My favorite line for this is: "A Harley and a MOPED will both get you from point A to point B. Which is smoother, faster and better built, not to mention last longer and higher RESALE .[cool]
