[cool]Thanks for the compliment. The answer is lost in time, but I suspect that I would have felt a little better knowing that my special fish had been bested by a worthy opponent.
Do not misunderstand. I have succumbed to the effectiveness of "Velveeta hackle" myself. I ain't no purist. And, I have invited more than a few fish home to meet my kitchen. But dang it, you just don't destroy an impressionable young man's ideals and dreams with a wad of cheese. Ain't no glory in it. And, I was young and impressionable once upon a time.
The good news is that i have a few "hero" stories, over the years, when I was the guy who fooled the wily old fish of local legends...with a feathery offering of my own design and creation. I once looked up from releasing such a fish to see an old gentleman watching me, with big tears running down his face. That's the kind of memories I would rather keep in my special vault.
